Layered Pinwheel

A few years ago I was a part of the Spring Tide Sampler collaboration. I designed a fairly simple block, but it packs a punch. These are all from the Spring Tide Sampler. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out.

Well fast forward a bit, and I kept thinking about the block. I didn’t really know how to make the cutting any easier. See, the single block has templates (paper pieces) you use to cut them out. Multiply that by a whole quilt and, well, you all would be mad at me. That’s a lot of cutting!

Then I found how to use Image Trace and convert images to SVG files for the cutters and I knew I was on to something. So I did just that. But then I thought… What about those people who don’t have cutting machines? They are still going to be mad at me for having to cut all those pieces.

I found a solution for you too. I figured out a way to use strips of fabric and specific cuts for the larger pieces. So now, no one has to be mad at me.

All three ways are included in the pattern. I also include a couple of mock up versions for you. Included with those are the yardages and the cuts for them. I know a few shop owners/workers will be pleased with that.

Ironically, the day the quilt was finished we had about 2″ of snow on the ground. How fitting for a spring-like quilt to be photographed in the snow.

I hope you find the pattern as user friendly as I hope it will be. Head over and get your pattern now. Use #layeredpinwheel and tag @memorybarnstudio so I can see what you create.
