April 2026 – Games

Do you like to play games? Do you like to watch games? Our family is kind of split on the answers to these. I have some family members that love anything outdoors, whether it is playing games, hiking, or going to watch a game outside.I have others who like a slower pace. Not necessarily indoors all the time, but maybe a board game on the porch.

When we were in school, especially early grades, our teachers would give us worksheets disguised as “games”. You know the ones. Do the multiplication to get the color code to color in your sheet. Sneaky. Although, I have to admit I am a math nerd and loved, well, most of them.

The one I could not get to save my soul were those Tangrams. You know. Seven pieces, different shapes and sizes, that you had to manipulate in order to make the shape given. What?!? I never could figure those out. Except maybe the ones with the line diagrams.

Well, we are doing Tangrams as our game this month. It actually is a really cool quilt block. And it is super easy to put together. In fact, you can almost make two whole squares from the initial cuts.

And don’t forget the games from the other designers. Have fun.

I am not sure about the weather where you are right now. When I saw the theme for October, I thought about cool nights at football games, hayrides, and bonfires, While those are still great activities, our weather isn’t quite ready for sweaters! We can still enjoy sweaters in our sewing spaces. I still designed…

  • August-Night Sky

I love the night sky. All the stars, planets, and even the International Space Station. Yes, it cruised right over our house a few years ago. It was so awesome. I really thought hard about this topic. In the end, I chose to make a Friendship Star block. Since I started quilting more as a…

  • What If?

Have you ever played the “What If?” game? You know, where you have an idea or even a spark of an idea and decide to go with it and see where it leads you? Well, that’s what I did a few years ago. I was making a lot of quilts at the time and had…

  • May-Art

“Art is in the eye of the beholder.” I’ve heard this saying over and over. But there is some truth to it. What is pleasing to me, might not be so pleasing to you. There are so many forms of art. Music. Dance. Painting. Quilting. Fiber Arts. Welding projects. And the list can continue on….

  • Technology

What an appropriate theme for an appropriate time. Technology…we can’t live with it and we can’t live without it. I seem to be one, right when I think I have it all figured out, something goes haywire. There are so many different types of technology. Medical, IT, and more. I tend to think backwards. Where…

  • June-Water

One of my favorite things to do as a family is to go on hikes, especially if the trails are near water. This is a picture of Cedar Falls. We were able to spend a day there during Covid. It was a really fun day. This is part of where I got my inspiration for…
